Progress in the Making
When I visited Washington, D.C., I met with both of my U.S. Senators to share my concerns about certain educational materials in schools—specifically those labeled LGBTQ or “gender-affirming.” I believe these materials ought to be reviewed to ensure they comply with existing state sex education laws and reflect the expectations of families and communities. Both Senators provided staff contacts; to date, I have been contacted by Senator Bernie Moreno’s office, which I appreciate.
Since that meeting, I have taken several steps to gather information and prepare documentation:
I am preparing a presentation that identifies what I believe are gaps or ambiguities in State Departments of Education that may allow certain materials into curricula under “other funding” without sufficient oversight.
I submitted evidence to the Education Committee of Congress (on which Congresswoman Virginia Foxx serves), with the hope that the information will be forwarded to Secretary McMahon at the U.S. Department of Education.
In Ohio, I filed a public records request on August 29, 2025, asking for details of “other funding” used from 2020 to the present. My goal is to understand how those funds are used, particularly if they are being used to support materials that might not align with state requirements or established curricula.
I also plan to reach out to organizations such as Moms for Liberty and Moms Across America. My aim is to work alongside groups concerned about school content, to ensure that the materials used in schools are appropriate, transparent, and consistent with state law.
What I am asking others to consider is this: Contact your Senators to remove gender affirming material from our schools. According to the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) that provides information regarding to sex education laws indicate that all fifty states prohibit LGBTQ discussion of individuals or topics.
My goal is to empower everyone to act. We are presented with a unique opportunity to remove gender affirming material from our schools. We have state sex education laws that is contrary for what is seen in our schools.
